For the past week I've seriously considered finding a way to save gas money and ride my bike to work. By car on the interstate it takes about 25-30 minutes to get there, which makes my commute to work about 20ish miles.
So, now that gas is stupid expensive and receiving an email from my dad about buying only American gas (like it really matters where it comes from, they still rape you), I have decided that it's time to do something pro-active. Starting probably next week, I will drive my car a mere 6 miles down the interstate (to avoid morning traffic in town) to a gas station (don't you love the irony), get on my bike and ride the rest of the way.
Doing this is posing a few problems though. I have to dress "professionally" at work, which means a dress shirt and tie most days, so getting clean, non-wrinkled clothing to work will be a challenge. Also, I have started a recycling campaign at work to recycle the hundreds of plastic bottles, aluminum cans and the 4 or 5 newspapers that we get on a daily basis, so this means that I will have to drive the entire way to work at least one day a week. So, on Mondays, I will drive the entire way to work to bring in a week's worth of dress clothes that I will keep in a garment bag in my office, I will also drive the entire way to work on Fridays so I can take away the week's recycling.
Gas is roughly $3.20/gallon, my car holds 13 gallons of gas and gets around 32 miles/gallon. Per week, I spend about $35 dollars for gas alone (I normally don't fill it completely), that's $140/month...just to get to work. If I can spend $35 every two weeks on gas, I'll save about $70/month and through the summer months (I consider this at least 4 months), I will have saved almost $300, and at the same time, stick it to da man!
So who cares where my gas comes from, cuz I'm not buying it...as much.

Yeah, but I forgot my clothes this morning, so I can't ride tomorrow, instead I'll have to bring clothes in. But I plan to start Wed. and ride Thurs too. Hopefully I can get into a pattern for next week.
